Good Practice is a course for doctors and medical students who need to communicate with patients in English; the course can be used in the classroom or for self-study. Good Practice focuses on the language and communication skills that doctors need to make consultations more effective, using five elements of good communication: verbal communication, active listening, voice management, non-verbal communication and cultural awareness. The course teaches learners how to sensitively handle a range of situations such as taking a patient history and breaking bad news, as well as preparing doctors for dealing with different types of patients. Good Practice demonstrates the impact of good communication on the doctor-patient relationship and enables students to become confident and effective practitioners in English. Good English communication skills are essential for completely understanding the patients which help you to recognize their problems and make diagnoses. Taking care of those patients and co-workers and make them understand your messages can help to avoid dangerous errors, as medical care is really a team effort!
If English is not your native language, the below options may help you to review the basic communication in English:
If you're a medical professional in an English-speaking country (or communicating with an international audience), you also need to know how to speak English with patients, co-workers, and the public. You may also need to write in English and it's important to consider your audience as the general public needs clear, non-technical English.
Professional colleagues may need more detailed, technical explanations, when writing for an international audience, remember many may not be native English speakers. It's worth the effort to double-check what you write to keep it clear and easy to understand.
Medical English is the specialized vocabulary used by healthcare professionals and clinical researchers and also discusses the communication techniques needed for effective work relationships. Medical terminology is not enough.
A more detailed content of the programme with the timeframe for each module will be given along with course materials during their sessions on Speaking, writing, Reading and Listening skills.
All the materials, methods and tools used for the coaching are of international standard and quality and the Lessons are taught by language trainers having international qualifications and experience.
